Perfmon doesn't display counter names just numbers

Symptom

When you launch perfmon instead of seeing the descriptive names you see numbers (making very difficult to select the right counter). You also notice that the home page of perfmon doesn’t display the default counters.

Resolution

• Close down perfmon
• Copy the “PerfStringBackup.INI” from a working server (C:\Windows\System32\PerfStringBackup.ini)
• Open up a command prompt and CD to C:\windows\system32
• Run “lodctr /R:perfstringbackup.ini”
• Re-open perfmon and you should see the default counters and the descriptive names.
